It gives me immense pleasure and pride to introduce the special issue of Chronicles of Young Scientists (CYS). This special issue will include publications from the winners of Pharmashine 2011. Pharmashine - 2011 was organized jointly by Pharmatutor and Organization of Pharmaceutical Unity with Bioallied Sciences. It was for the first time that both the associations came together and organized a competition which was one of its type. Not only the competition gave a unique opportunity to the young talents across the country, but also has helped them in understanding the basics of writing or publishing.

We received articles from various branches of pharmaceutical and biomedical sciences including pharmacology, pharmaceutics, pharmaceutical analysis and pharmaceutical technology to name a few. More than 100 entries were received and were divided into the different sections based on the individual topics. After this, the articles were screened and evaluated by eminent personalities of the relevant field. To be fair, I have to admit that most of the entries were rejected simply because they were high on plagiarism and had simply copied either the entire article or a part of it from some other source. Novelty of the article was given the prime consideration while carrying out the evaluation. So next time, you decide on to participate in such competition or for that matter even if you try to publish any article, give utmost attention to the novelty of your work. We, as peer reviewers, specially focus on this.

Novel drug delivery system is one of the prime areas of research in pharmaceutical technology. Today, various scientists across the world are working on drug carriers like nanoparticles, liposomes, etc., to name a few. Such areas are attracting the young students as well. Hence, many submitted articles were found to be on such technologies and that did not come to me as a surprise. The top two articles of Pharmashine 2011 were also based on the same. The article entitled 'Novel targeted drug delivery systems-New age weapons for bladder diseases' bagged the first prize while the second place was booked by the article entitled 'Magnetic particles for drug delivery: An overview'. Both the articles were comprehensive and gave an insight to drug delivery systems. The third top article was the one entitled 'Alternatives to Animal Testing: A vantage over animal models' which was a very unique article.

Eventually, I would like to appreciate the entire editorial board from CYS, especially Dr. Himanshu Gupta who gave me an opportunity to get associated with CYS and Pharmashine 2011.

Thanking you,
